Money Matters with Nimi

On Saturday 11th August 2018, a unique learning event “Men and Money Matters” tailored for men, was hosted by “Money Matters with Nimi” at Westwood Hotel, 22 Awolowo Road, South West Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to Nimi Akinkugbe, Founder, Money Matters with Nimi and CEO Bestman Games Ltd, “We have traditionally focused on personal finance events for our children, youth and women; recently we have been inundated with messages from men to give some attention to their unique challenges. This event served that purpose.

“Men and Money Matters,” presented delegates with vital financial tools, tips, products and services for the purpose of achieving financial security. A select group of leading financial institutions including FBNQuest, AXA Mansard and Stanbic IBTC Asset Management, were on hand to present an array of outstanding products and services. Participants were better equipped to make well-informed decisions through the various stages of their lives, especially as they provide leadership for their families, both financially and otherwise.

It was particularly pleasing to see so many young men in attendance, eager to start early in their investing lives. “The earlier you start…the better. It is extraordinary what you can achieve when you get started early,” said Mrs Akinkugbe. “It’s not about how little or how much you earn; it’s about the discipline of setting something aside regularly.”

Special Guest speaker, The Registrar Covenant University, Mr Muyiwa Oladayo in his closing reflections shared thoughts from his essay, the “Portraits of the Wealthy,” which highlighted some of the attributes of the wealthy. The wealthy discover their area of interest, develop competence in it and focus on it: They improve their credentials, attributes, skills, knowledge, experience and talent. They recognise that the way to build wealth is to add value by solving problems.

Copies of A-Z of Personal Finance by Nimi Akinkugbe were presented to early delegates, whilst some guests went home with the Monopoly board games.

Ebele Israel, Axa Mansard

Ebele Israel, Axa Mansard, highlighted the importance of insurance as a fundamental tool in any financial plan. This is an area that needs much more focus and provides such important solutions for reducing the risk we are exposed to in our daily lives.

Mr Adeniyi Babalola - FBN Quest Asset
Mr Babalola Adeniyi of FBNQuest Trustees enlightened the audience about some of the most effective Estate Planning tools including wills and trusts.

The Stanbic IBTC Asset Management and Stockbroking teams introduced Mutual Funds and Stock market portfolios. Mutual Funds are a great way to start investing in the stock market, as the entry point is relatively low. Investing is key to long-term financial security; the key is to think long term.

The learning event was oversubscribed, and with the very strong positive feedback from delegates, it is clear that there is a need to repeat this event in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other Nigerian cities in due course.
